The Resolution Solution- Part 1


This is an abbreviated excerpt from my upcoming book.

If I could imagine a vessel that contained all the unused New Year’s resolutions, I imagine something akin to a city water tower. So, why is it that we don’t stick to our resolutions? A recent survey disclosed that, roughly, eight percent of us stick to our New Year’s resolutions. That is an alarming fact. I tell you this not for you to abandon your desire to do or be a more improved you.

Quite the opposite.

If you are fatigued over false starts and missteps on the road to your resolutions, goals or intentions you are seeking to achieve you might be happy to hear that there is a simple, winning soution to transformng your visions into reality. If you are curious...

Let’s get started....

For this part of the exercise, all you must do for the first few days is :

LISTEN

Listen to the chatter in your head. Pay close attention to the consistent, negative dialog that pops up. What story are you telling yourself around your dreams not becoming a reality?

Let me walk you through an example

Since many of our resolutions revolve around better health, let’s take a relatable example:

EXAMPLE: I will lose 20 pounds in 2018 by February 15th.

And, you will probably agree, it sarts out well. You wake up on January 2nd with the holidays in our rear-view mirror looking over the dashboard at the road to your resolution success. You are full of hope and inspiration that your goal is reasonable, and that you are unstoppable.

And this last, oh, probably for about 24 hours.

Then, that special guest arrives. That creature out to sabotage your hopes and dreams. Who lives for your disappointment. His name is My Monkey. The little monkey that sits on your shoulder to deliver that constant, buzz-killing chatter known as Monkey Mind.

I am sure many of you may have heard of this devilish creature conjured in our subconscious minds who loves to feed not on fresh fruit but rather on our doubts, fears and woes.

“You are just going to be fat your entire life.” “Why do you even try, you know you are going to fail?”

Oh, the monkey is ruthless in his intention to keep alive our negative thoughts that govern our daily existence!

And “NEWS FLASH” what we consistently tell our subconscious mind shapes much of our lives. If we are to accomplish anything in this life to have our best life, we must be our own best advocate!
